Ruffles - And A Personal Giveaway

How many trends have we seen on blogs and drooled over and coveted? Remember ruffles? One of my obsessions was the deep ruffle bedspread, made famous by Joni Webb and Pam Pierce. Always a girl on a budget, I could not afford a custom one, and the closest thing to custom were the ones from pricey Horchow. I finally got my Horchow ruffles, but they didn't work out for the lifestyle of my bed - dog, cat, husband who ate in bed, wife who used bed as an office, a non-ironing household, etc. So it got tucked away.

Trendy ruffles we all love

I am downsizing, and moving. Don't get too excited. I am moving to one side of our house, so I can rent the other side, and eventually have my sister retire and live with me. You can just imagine the organizing and purging, and all the emotions connected to this.

Joni Webb inspired me

Anyway, I have this fabulous white king size deep ruffle bedspread from Horchow up for grabs. FREE. But I must ask you to please pay the shipping and iron it. Who wants it? Leave a comment and I will let Cholo and KKBB do the random choosing from the comments. I would love for it to go to someone who can use it and love it. Where would you use it?

You can have it! My bedroom many many many reincarnations ago!

In the meantime, enjoy the hit parade of ruffles we have loved over the years, and still do.

  3. I have a king bed and would love it but I have a dog that lives large and as much as it pains me it probably belongs to someone else. Sigh…..when are you coming to Atlanta or doing online design??????

  4. Oh, I would gladly pay the shipping. It is just beautiful and needs a new cozy home. Good luck with sharing your home. I think it sounds nice that you will have someone there. I can only imagine how quiet it is for you. Wonderful if your sister can retire and move in as well. Glad you aren't leaving your beautiful home. Thanks.

  5. Valerie,
Good for you to be brave, downsize and think about your future as well as your sisters. I know that you will edit and purge and find it liberating!
No need for the pretty ruffle bed spread but I know someone will take very good care of it.
    love to you,

  8. I would really love to have this ruffled bedspread - my bedroom has some pieces of blue and white porcelain, my old antique dresser I've had since I was 10, a little French chair I got for 17.00, and a happy jumble of other things - it would look good in there and I would be proud that you previously owned it!

  9. I had to catch my breath when I read you're giving this away! I have wanted a spread just like this for YEARS! I'd finally come to the conclusion that the only way I'd ever own one is to make my own (from drop cloth)...I'd be so thrilled to enjoy your spread on my own bed. It would be a tremendous upgrade! (I feel like I should tell you I have a queen-so I'd have to do a little nip and tuck-but I'm good with a sewing machine and am confident I could make the necessary alterations.) Bring on the shipping!! And thank you for such a generous offer!

  12. Be still my heart! I am retiring and moving to San Miguel de Allende to heal my heart and replenish my spirit. I would love this on a four poster iron bedstead .... I want to create an Old Colonial feel to my new tiny casita... to be embraced by luxury, a bit of drama, the yin (soft) and yang (strong), to add a bit of history (yours) to the Old World feel, to continue the love story... just writing a new chapter. Beauty passed on. There is nothing lovelier!

  13. Oh my gosh, that is the bedspread dreams are made of! I recently bought my first house in Lafayette, and in the process of making it a home, your blog has served as such an incredible inspiration to me. It is so refreshing to see such a blended eclectic (and unexpected) aesthetic coming from a Louisiana designer, when it seems like time and again, everything I identify with is coming out of NY, LA, Atlanta, or Dallas. I'm dying to stumble across one of your projects when I'm in New Orleans on the weekends (I'm enrolled in grad school at Tulane), so I can soak it all in and appreciate the little details. Just wanted to finally comment and let you know that you have such a fan in me, and I've loved following along on your journey. I'd be honored to give that bedspread a new life in my home (and bonus- no shipping needed, I can pick it up!)

  18. Hi Miz V, it's me Carey. What a process going into "half house mode" must be. But your creativity blossoms under a challenge such as this, so I anticipate that your new space will be something especially unique and personal. I can't wait to see it. So relieved to know you have a good plan and are staying put.

I can't throw my hat in the ring for your beautiful bedspread. I have a Cal King and have learned the hard way that King toppers hate Cal King bottoms.

  21. Valorie,
My jaw dropped. I LOVE knowing you are on Laurel. I think of you often. Someday soon, I shall find my way to your porch and leave you some tea.
Someone will thoroughly enjoy your ruffled spread.
Gratitude that you have a focus and plan.
We have just spent months purging. It included grieving. Let yourself that space.
I am an excellent helper if you would like a willing Jena neighbor.
