"Yay Deborah!"
ReplyDelete"Poor Me!"
Valorie, our worlds passed briefly late Oct 26 in the customs area of YYC. My world went from an exhaused but satisfied peace (having just returned from vacation) to experiencing life becoming raw. In an instant the gentleman beside me was heading towards the ground. All I knew was that this gentleman, "Alberto" was in trouble. It was haunting, the intensity of the love coming from his companion, determined to keep a hold of him.
ReplyDeleteI offered what help I could, which was more supporting the Stewardess who attempted CPR until the paramedics arrived. My family waited after we cleared customs to learn that a weak pulse was found, with that we have prayed for both of you. I witnessed so many levels of our collective humanity that evening. It is the overwhelming indifference contrasting with compassion that has played over in my mind.
I'm not sure what about today that brought a passing thought of that evening to bring me to google, "Calgary airport Alberto, October 26". I did, and there it was, the relief in knowing you and Alberto made it home together.
As a proud Canadain I had difficulty with some of the posts that offer insults suggesting feelings of inferiority caused a "power trip". This seems without logic. I'm sure every system has flaws by nature of the humans who operate within them. The state of healthcare is an area for much political debate. Politics and preferences aside, I was proud of my Canadian paramedics who responded and treated Alberto, who safely transported him to a hospital where he was stabalized and cared for until he could be returned home. I don't begin to know Alberto, but what I saw was a gentleman laid out on the floor in the airport and I can't imagain he would complain about being saved if that meant he would have to be moved to a location with dirty sheets. Perhaps you will ask him for me?
I am truly happy that you and your family are blessed.
Sharon
I'm so excited for Deb!!! I know how much she misses "home"...the sign will be a special reminder for her...and even more special because it was won through you!
ReplyDeleteSo glad Alberto is feeling better and that you are both starting to get back to having a 'normal' life.
Much love,
Jessica
If I didn't like Deb so much I'd be so bummed!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Deb, luckeeeee!

Dear Sharon from Canada,
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to leave your amazing comment. It is awesome that you found me through blogging!
No insults were meant against Canadians. We were treated beautifully by the people there.
We just got caught up in a pissing contest between two doctors, and two countries.
The sheets were not dirty, and Alberto got the care that saved his life. We will be forever grateful for that.
I apologize for causing you any distress.
Thank you for your concern for us that night at the airport, and for tracking me down to let me know you were there with your prayers.
