You should take a real USA White Trash dish too, like Ambrosia: 2 cans (tins) Mandarin Orange slices (2 cups) 1 cup seedless grapes (slice them in half) 1/2 cup sliced (and toasted) almonds 1 bag (or tin) of shredded coconut 1 - 2 cups sour cream 1 bag mini marshmellows Mix it all up in a pretty bowl - Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves and a couple of slices of Mandarin It really is good! And no cooking! xo xo
ha ha Ambrosia! I do a "healthy" version using fresh and beautiful Louisiana Satsumas. I also use fresh coconut, and low fat sour cream. Toasting the almonds really makes it sing. I have tried to leave out the marshmellows, but it just isn't as good ha ha. You can disguise them by using that marshmellow stuff that comes in a jar. But actually the marshmellows melt into the sour cream, and it's hard to know they are there. It's just a little sugar darling. Everytime I bring this dish somewhere, or put it on my own table, I get gasps and groans, and then guess what? It magically vanishes! It is a tacky dish of the devil for sure, but part of our American childhood (the recipe came from the TV Guide via Kraft who made the marshmellows). Now how about some green bean casserole? Love you guys! xo xo PS Ambrosia is an original dish from Colonial days - Hard to get things at the time were oranges and other fruit, a rare treat, "ambrosia", for the winter holiday season.
