House of Fifty - The Fashion and Decor Issue - Debra Rapoport

The streets of New York City are like a fashion runway. Certain stylish people are spotted over and over again, becoming known for their great style. Ari Seth Cohen started an amazing blog a couple of years ago were he focused on taking street fashion pictures and interviewing fashion mavens from age 60 and up. He called it Advanced Style.

Artist and life coach Debra Rapoport is a regular fixture on the-streets-as-runway in New York, and she has been featured many times on Advanced Style. I was very attracted to her one-of-a-kind style, and her life philosophy. So when House of Fifty tapped me for a column about the correlation between fashion and home decor, I thought of Debra.

Debra is like so many New Yorkers, living in the same compact apartment for over 30 years. Her fabulous fashion sense spills over into her home decor, creating a colorful bohemian space. I wanted to fly to New York to see her apartment, photograph it, and interview her. In a perfect world this would have been possible. But in these budget conscious days, road trips are not happening.

So I tapped my friend and colleague Maria McBride who lives in New York, and is an extraordinary editor, author, and stylist, to help me out. She and her daughter, the photographer Ryan Mellinger set up a photo shoot with Debra, and made some beautiful pictures. Debra and I connected, and the result is my Advanced Decor column in the Fall 2012 issue of House of Fifty (starting on page 90). Please take a look and read the article. Debra is a very interesting woman, and her outlook on life is wonderful.

I Have A New Column At House Of Fifty

The new issue of House of Fifty just dropped. Turn to page 42 and see my first column for them called Advanced Decor.  HOF will be publishing Advanced Decor in every issue!

I chose to profile the fabulous Joni Webb of Cote de Texas. Joni did an in depth post about her experience that I know you will all love to read. Go on over there and tell her The Vamp sent you.

I am proud to be part of the team at House of Fifty

At one point Joni quips, "Not sure if Advance Décor means décor for the advanced aged????".

Go to page 42 of House of Fifty to read my article about Joni Webb

Well it's Advanced, not advance, and it means that one is expert and experienced and the best at what they do, and that one has the audacity of age to share their gift with people of all ages, that they are "advanced" not "beginners". It's like getting a master class from whoever inspires me to write about them. Being advanced comes with time.

So go check out House of Fifty. It is jam packed with wonderful fresh photos of decor and great articles that anyone at any age will love.

I Love Me Some Advanced Style

I am very blessed.

rue magazine did a wonderful feature of my design work! Being the quipster that I am, I say that I am the oldest thing they have ever put in the magazine.

Advanced Style - Buy this book
I think there is another book idea here: "Advanced Decor" (is my publisher listening?).
Just think of the lifetime of collecting and experience that one accumulates by a certain age.
Nicole Cohen of Sketch42 regularly features photos of her grandmother's home that are absolutely beautiful and stylish. Her grandmother's home is one I would definitely include in my book "Advanced Decor".

I would put this in my book called Advanced Decor! via Sketch42
In the meantime, I wrote an article for the anniversary issue of House of Fifty, a lifestyle and design magazine produced by the older and very stylish generation. Go check it out, and tell me does your decor tell your age?

Read: Does Your Decor Tell Your Age

The big fat gorgeous anniversary issue of House of Fifty

And while you are reading magazines today go check out rue - It is a really good  (and huge) issue.

Love the current cover of rue magazine - the young girls are playing granny dress-up!
