This weekend THE Summer chick flick is opening, which is "Eat Pray Love" with Julia Roberts. I am late to the book party, and am just now trying to finish the chick lit book of the same title.
I'm bogged down in Bali, and wish she would just do the guy already.
Italy was of course the best part, and if you could have Javier Bardem in that part be her lover it could have been a book (movie) unto itself.
India (in the book) was okay, and by the end of slogging though it, I ended up liking this part of the book more than I thought possible, and trying on her mantra to see where it will take me.
Bali is bogging me down, and I feel I will never finish this book. I think this book reads like a self serving series of blog posts. I'm not totally in love with it (or her), but I still come back for a daily post to see what happens.
But heads up: There is another movie that will be out next year that looks wonderful too, and I'm starting the buzz. It's called "Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding".
Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener are teaming up for a little "Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding," a multi-generational indie film to be directed by Bruce Beresford.
The production designer is Carl Sprague.
BCDF Pictures is producing and financing the picture, which is shooting now in New York's Hudson River Valley.
Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski wrote the script, which centers on a conservative lawyer (Keener) who, after her husband leaves her, takes her son and daughter to the house of their estranged, hippie grandmother (Fonda) in Woodstock, where they each find love in unexpected places.
Jane also took pottery lessons
Go to her blog and read all about what she does to prepare for a movie!

A couple of months ago the fabulous Julia from Hooked On Houses, did a weekend links post that led me to the Jane Fonda Blog. I cannot thank her enough for this connection, as I have been enjoying Jane's blog ever since, and I urge you to add it to your blog list, and read it frequently.
Peace, Love and Misunderstanding is filmed on location near Woodstock, NY

I've gathered a few pictures from Jane Fonda's blog to show you the set design for Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding. It's pretty fabulous. It's being filmed on location in upstate New York near Woodstock.
The production design, and costume and hair and make up are spot on for the era. Jane's wigs are incredible.

Jane documents her life of movie making, taking tons of behind the scenes photos, and telling you all about the process, and the people she is working with.
Prop girl Annie is the chicken wrangler too!

She looks fabulous and seems to be working alot. She just finished a film in France, where she spoke French and learned to dance tango!
From Jane's blog: "I have arrived in Paris to begin work on a French film called “…Et Si On Vivait Tous Ensemble?” (“And If We All Lived Together?”) Geraldine Chaplin (Charlie’s daughter) is the other woman and the men are all iconic French actors, beloved here. Guy Bedos, Claude Rich, Pierre Richard. I love how the French are loyal to their stars even when they are no longer young. The young German actor, Daniel Brühl, who was in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards” is also in it. He and I have some lovely scenes together. He plays a graduate student studying the lives of seniors in France and how the population relates to them.
It has been 50 years since I made a film in French. Fortunately I have remained fluent though on the days when I have several scenes with a lot of dialogue I will be tested, for sure."
So we have two incredible Jane Fonda movies to look forward to!

I hope you enjoyed my little compilation from Jane Fonda's blog. There is so much more there to see, so take the time to explore it. She is a very good writer, and very accessible in her approach. This is no fake celebrity blog written by flunkies.
Happy Weekend! And tell me what you think of Eat Pray Love (the movie and the book).

Another great post! I can't wait for that Jane Fonda movie. I'm glad you mentioned her blog. I had seen it from "Hooked on Houses" but forgot to go back. I'm going to make sure I follow it now.
ReplyDeleteThanks Valorie for the great info on both of Jane's upcoming movies and her blog. I like her a lot & will look forward to seeing Peace, Love, Misunderstanding particularly. I confess I am the only female on the planet that has not read Eat, Pray, Love. Once I figure out how to be cloned I've got in on the list for my counter-part to take on! Can't wait to read your impressions of the movie.

The only magic buses I see these days are the ones belonging to the Twelve Tribes. I stay far, far, far, far away from them.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely cool to see old school bus conversions at music festivals, though. :)
I haven't read the book, and I most probably will not see the movie, but I'm always telling my family that's what I'm going to do one day. Take off to places unknown for a year. I'm not sure the destination in the movie are for me but, I'm sure I could come up with some great ones. Thank for such an in-depth look into Jane's sets, it's so interesting see all that stuff we use to have in our rooms.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your secret? You do the most fantastic posts. This is awesome. Have to see this. Thanks for the heads up. Enjoy the weekend. Loved the post

Like you, I've been a hold out on reading Eat Love Pray...I'm still holding out - its on my Amazon Kindle WishList, but I can't seem to get around to downloading it. I've heard it speaks very differently to generations of women. My MIL who is in her 70's read it for her book club and just didn't get it. My 40 something girl friends could relate, but the 30 and under crowd seem to have embraced it the most.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading Jane's blog for a while now and you're right, she's very interesting and not at all celebrity like. I'm impressed with her continued spirit of get up and go. She is a fabulous example of a woman truly living her life fully. We all should follow her example. I'm still having a hard time getting over her being in her 70's. Hope I still look that good at 60!
@ La Petite Gallery,

...oh jane you are a long long way from atlanta now...were you ever really here...
ReplyDeleteI got the book when it first came out and in a weekend (sporting new pajamas) with a bag of Raisinets, devoured them both! I could totally relate to this woman except some of the India stuff was lost on me but once I got past it, the weekend flew by.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on Jane's blog. Look forward to checking it out.
xoxo
Thanks for the tip on Jane's Blog, I'll definitely be checking it out.
ReplyDeleteI too loved the book but found it hard to get through it sometimes.
I was living in Indonesia when I read the book and could so relate to the Bali section, lol.
I found this comic send up book; Drink, Play, F@#k, a spoof from the male perspective and surprisingly, really liked it...

I would recommend it.
Hi Valorie! I loved the book, EPL. Hope to see the movie...and how vivacious is that Jane Fonda! She has really lived a full life --- and yes....that car is a must!

I just finished the book today. It was really good but I agree with what you said about meeting the guy in Italy !
ReplyDeleteJane's the shiz! She is as good now as 35 years ago, as her photos show. Thanks for sharing this as an alternative to spoon-fed "EPL/JR", as I'm not a fan.
ReplyDeleteI tried to read the book last summer and just didn't get very far. Maybe the movie will capture my attention better. I read so many books simultaneously that if one doesn't really grab me, I never finish it. The movie looks pretty to look at, if nothing else!
ReplyDeleteI didn't recognize Jane Fonda as a hippie at first. Too funny! Looking forward to seeing that one when it comes out. :)
i loved this post.
ReplyDeletei read every word, and took notes.
i am heading to her blog, and can't wait for her 2 new movies.

I want a magic bus! That was fantastic. Set design is so fun to read about.
ReplyDeleteGREAT post. Much more excited for Jane Fonda's flick that Eat, Pray, Love. "Self-serving" is SPOT on. I read it years ago and have always always always thought that. Happy WEEKEND!
ReplyDeleteMy Mother and I always have different takes on books and movies which always have us resolving our lively discussions with peace, love and understanding....well misunderstanding to be understood. Every generation deserves that!
ReplyDeleteJane Fonda rocks, and I love woodstock and purple paint!
pve
Love, Love your blog!!
ReplyDeletejust saw the movie last night! bali bogged me down in the book, too, but it is portrayed much better in the film. julia roberts does a great job and i love the fact that she is not stick-skinny in this film.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see jane's new films!! thanks for a great post.
Ohh Jane's blog sounds wonderful. I will surely be going there. I'll also be seeing Eat, Pray, Love in the days to come. I really loved that book. I think it's where my head was at the time I read it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting parallel Valorie!!! And some great pictures of Jane!!!!Haven't read the book yet, still trying to get Le Shop ready for fall. I loved this,,, especially her doing the tango. I saw her in person once when Ted and she were out in Long beach for the Congressional Cup Sailing race. He was a jerk. She was nice and petite in stature which surprised me....Maryanne xo
