Last night started the big Mardi Gras weekend. After twelve years of living in New Orleans, I must admit that sometimes we get lazy about going to the Carnival parades that are just a couple of blocks from our front door. But once we rattle our cages and get out and get to the parades, we are always glad we did, and always amazed that even after seeing more or less the same scenario every year, we have a really good time!

There is one parade we never miss, the all women
Krewe of Muses. It was the first parade Sabina took us to as Mardi Gras virgins. So now that she and Joe moved away after Katrina, we try and catch some good Muses loot to send to her. Our neighbors Julie and Larry joined us last night, and helped get some stuff for Sabina too. And BTW Patricia Clarkson for the celeb Queen riding last night.

Today Julie and her mother and sister and friends are going to a Bustier Luncheon! Dozens of women dress up in sexy corsets and bustiers and wigs and cute outfits, and have lunch in fancy hotels in the French Quarter. I'm so in next year!

What a city! For the next five days no real business, except the bar and food business, will go on. You have to check out this commercial for our local grocery store,
Rouses HERE.
And really, from now until Fat Tuesday, you will see people in costume shopping in the supermarket for supplies.

Everyone has an "after Mardi Gras" attitude. The biggest pressing problem in our lives is rain, and even that doesn't stop the fun.
So Happy Weekend, and we really wish you were here!
