More is More with Howard Slatkin

Okay. I am not a Howard Slatkin stalker, but I am a fan. So this morning propped up in bed, with Alberto on one side, and Cholo on another, with the New York Times, and coffee, the beautiful morning light streaming into the room, the turquoise silk drapes looking extra pretty, I am flipping through T Magazine the Design edition, and whoa! there's a beautiful eight page editorial about Howard Slatkin!

You know I share things from the New York Times with you. So it gives me great pleasure to share this. Go to the article on line. The photos by Simon Watson are glorious, and the story written by fellow New New (someone from New York who lives in New Orleans) Sara Ruffin Costello is great. I am amazed and fascinated at how inspiring Howard's book and apartment and personality are to different writers and photographers.

The dining room is where Howard really went to town - Just remember this was a standard issue New York apartment white box - by the way the color Eau di nil  in this room (Nile River Green) was the color of my prom dress back in the day! - photo by Simon Watson

The entry hall with French 18th century wallpaper panels - The floor is made of custom cut tiles, and the Louis XVI-style pilaster in the corner was also custom-made - photo by Simon Watson

I love this view of the living room - You can really see the 18th century floors that Howard got in France - Remember he used the wrong side up so he could preserve the original finish on the other side - I also love, love, LOVE the cut velvet tiger fabric on the chairs close to the cashmere covered sofa - photo by Simon Watson

Hi Howard!!! Love your apartment! - photo by Simon Watson

The guest suite - You know you want it! - photo by Simon Watson

The seductive screening room

Happy Sunday everyone! If you can buy the New York Times where you are, get it, because the pictures look so amazing in the large format of T Magazine.

  2. Heavens! I was invited to one of the book signing parties here in NYC but couldn't make it, and didn't know anything (admittedly) about the author/subject. Now that I see these photos I am keen to learn more. Thanks, RD
